What Happens During a Root Canal?
A root canal is a complex treatment that requires clearing the interior of a tooth so that it can be preserved for long-term use.
Dr. Dhaliwal will begin by administering local anesthesia to numb the tooth and the surrounding area. After isolating it with a dental dam, she will use specialized instruments to access the interior and begin clearing the canals and pulp chamber. After removing the infected pulp and bacteria, she will sanitize the tooth and fill it with gutta-percha, a biocompatible material, to maintain the tooth's internal structure. A filling will then be added before a custom crown is seated over the natural tooth.
